Any fans? Their older material is very awesome. More depressive than a lot of doom out there but still quality stuff. I suggest Turn Loose The Swans and The Angel And The Dark River.
I like most of their material. As the Flower Withers is a great CD. I actually prefer that one to Swans. But both are still great. Their earlier doom stuff in general is quite atmospheric. But I like how they totally break that up with faster death metal stuff.
I didn't pay as much attention to them towards the late 90's & early 00's. I was getting more into other stuff then, and in general wasn't listening to much doom other then Cathedral really. My friend would once in a while burn me MDB stuff to check out but I never really took much notice. He gave me Songs of Darkness almost a year before I finally listened to it. When I did I was surprised how much they grew from their older sound, and liked it instantly. I picked up Meisterwerk 1 & 2, and a couple others; and have picked up each CD & EP since. They have definitely fused more gothic elements into their material over the years. But like they did with older stuff, they still fuse Death Metal elements in there that makes for such a well rounded, yet unique blend of styles. I love long epic songs that take you through different vibes within the framework of one song. So for me My Dying Bride are perfect.
Line of Deathless kings is great. Although their newest - Lies I Sire, hasn't quite grabbed me as quickly as the rest. I would love to see them live. They only play Europe unfortunately. I'm gonna have to plan a trip to one of these Euro festivals soon & make sure to pick the one they wind up playing. They're fucking great!
They're pretty good. Their early material is really good, but I haven't really liked anything since The Angel and the Dark River.
Warlockgrinder: Do you know if they play at Wacken? I might end up going to it next year, and it would be really cool to catch My Dying Bride.

Well according to the internet they've only played Wacken once in 2002. I would have thought they'd played there more often then that. I see MDB listed on Blabbermouth all the time when they report the festival lineups. There's plenty of festivals in Europe each year. So perhaps plan to go to more then one when you do go out there. And really if you're going to go to Germany you should plan to stay a while. So taking in more then one festival seems justified. I keep saying I'm going to go to one myself. But each year it seems something gets in the way. Hopefully next year though.
By the way, make sure you keep on top of when Wacken goes on sale. The one that took place this year sold out last December I think it was 70,000 tickets sold in less then a month. It broke a sales record.
Thanks for the advice. I'll be in Europe for a while, so I probably will hit more than one festival.
