Anyone else listen to them? I think they are the absolute heaviest band on the planet. Amazing shit. Make most doom bands look like the Jonas Brothers.
In my opinion, they are so heavy, because they get what "heavy" is, and their music is extremely atmospheric-it sounds like what it would sound like if the world ended.
Here they are with Funeralopolis off of their classic record Dopethrone.

holy fuck this song is good. Got any more recs?
Chrononaut is really good too.
If you really like Electric Wizard, also check out the band "Sleep."
They are another great doom band and they have a one hour song/album called Dopesmoker.
It's over 60 minutes of doomy goodness.
Well, I really liked the given song. Might get into it once I've got all the rest of this shit out of the way.

Get Dopesmoker first, if you can. It's fantastic.
Yeah, all the Electric Wizard shit is amazing. IMO Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics are classic doom records. I love Sleep too they rule
One of the best fucking bands ever. Funeralopolis, Satanic Rites of Drugula, Dunwich, Vinum Sabbathi, Dopethrone, We Hate You, The Chosen Few, Witchcult Today, too many awesome songs to even name.
Just getting into this band...
Electric Wizard are an outstanding band . I have their S/T , Come My Fanatics...,
Dopethrone , Let Us Prey, We Live, and Witchcult Today . In other words all their
full length CDs.
I just came upon this on the Last.FM page about them
"As the world plunges into chaos, in the final days of the wretched human race, there is only one antidote to the misery…THE ELECTRIC WIZARD.
The oblivion and ecstasy of crushing doom and high grade marijuana, a sonic aural trip far, far away from this world, where only cyclopean walls of crackling vintage valve amplifiers set to the full overdrive and primal ritualistic beats can wash away all the filth and drudgery of everyday life. Our music is Doom Metal, the only true definition. We toll the bell of hell, our sound is a crushing behemoth of funeral march psychedelia. Violent, bleak and ritualistic, we bow to the black altar of the RIFF. We do not rock, we kill!"
How fucking epic is that?
Anyways, I am absolutely in love with their first 3 albums now. The last 3 might take a bit more digestion but fuck me is this band awesome
Nolifer, I'm really glad you love Electric Wizard now. They are so great. And I love that quote from their site!!! That quote personifies them. To me, there are so many metal bands that try to be scary and "the heaviest band in the world" but Wizard doesn't have to try to do those things. They are! I forget exactly what Jus (their guitarist/singer) said but there was a quote like this:
Interviewer: Some metal fans say that Dopethrone is too heavy and that you guys are way too heavy for some people. What do you think of that?
Jus: I think we underestimated the metal fans of the world. We try to make the heaviest music around and it shocks me how weak the metal fanbase is if they can't "handle" us.
OMG!! epic. One of my favorite bands.
Too heavy, my ass!
It hit just the spot for me
Although, since you're a fan, would you happen to know what tunings they use?
I can start learning by ear with these songs but I can't do that if I don't even have the tuning. And I must ****ing have those songs in my "repertoire"

I'm of the opinion that people who find Electric Wizard "too heavy" aren't actually metal fans.

Yeah bro. Their songs on the first record are in C#-a step and a half down from standard. Every other album is in A# Tuning-3 whole steps from standard. WOW! It's really low. I know you play bass so when you go down that low, just make sure you don't tune back up too fast or they will break I have seen it happen.
And twinsfan, I agree with you. They just...don't get it.

Gotcha man, thanks loads.
Now to get cracking on some good stuff

I tried ... it's really weird

I like the heavieness, but on the other hand it kinda bores me ... but, there is an undeniable hypnotic feel

. Doom isn't exactly my cup of tea anyway. I'll try to listen again anyway, sometimes you have to take a few listen to appreciate music.
Just listened to Black Masses and it left me feeling like.... meh, mostly, other than a few parts here and there, it failed to captivate me.
Will definitely give it more listens but not with high expectations.
