Armored Saint is a traditional metal band from Los Angeles, formed in 1982. They broke up in 1992 when lead singer John Bush joined Anthrax, but they reformed in 1999 when Anthrax went on a temporary hiatus. They're still active to this day, and new material was expected to be released in 2009, last time I checked.
I own all of Armored Saint's studio albums, and Raising Fear and Symbol of Salvation are both fantastic. Highly recommended to any fan of traditional metal.

I remember an old weekly college metal radio show always opened with Can U Deliver. I didn't realize it was Saint until MTV did a Halloween concert with Saint & Grim Reaper in 87. And that was my first exposure to a lot of their other songs. I thought they were all very well written & played. After that I picked up Raising Fear, & their debut. Although I felt the albums lacked a little of what that MTV concert had. There's a live EP available of the MTV performance, & I highly recommend that. I was really jazzed to get Symbol the day it was released. Being a fan of the band Odin, I was really eager to hear guitarist Shawn Duncan with Saint on that album. He was a perfect fit with the band. And you're right twinsfan - the album is solid.
I finally got to see them in L.A. a few years ago when they did a co-headline gig with Death Angel. After seeing D.A. absolutely pulverize the crowd, Saint (who came on after D.A.) was a little lackluster. So they didn't quite get me going as much as I would have liked (perhaps if had the lineup been in reverse). So I wound up bailing out after the 4th song. In another setting with a few more similar styled bands I think it would have been a different result.
Still I do think they're a cool band, and very under rated for what they have to offer. I think a great band for them to partner up with & tour alongside would be Vicious Rumors, & or Leatherwolf (another under rated 80's L.A. Metal band).
Criminally underrated band that deserves to be up there with the other greats of the 80's
IMO. I seen them live twice and own all their CDs and two shirts. My favorites are Delirious Nomad and March of the Saints but Raising Fear and Symbol of Salvation are awesome too.

This. Raising Fear is probably one of the top 5 80s metal albums ever.
I tried to get a shirt from an online retailer, but I didn't get my shirt within the specified time frame (or at all for that matter). I called the number on the website and sent a few e-mails and I had no answer. Luckily I paid through Paypal and got my money back.
So, this little gem was finally re-released:
and I picked it up. I waited 2 years to find this thing and it didn't disappoint. This is definitely some of their best material next to Raising Fear.
Everything this band did is great, but RF and DN are the top two albums from this band IMO
