I am shocked to see an active black metal forum that has yet to mention the almighty Bathory! Bathory are regarded as pioneers of both black metal and viking metal, and they're also one of the best metal bands that ever existed in my opinion. Quorthon was a musical genius, no doubt about it. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this legendary band?
I will say this: Under the Sign of the Black Mark (and more specifically, Enter the Eternal Fire) is one of the greatest things I have ever heard.
I've only heard Under the Sign of the Black Mark.
RECOMMEND MOAR
I recommend ALL of it! Like I said, Quorthon was a musical genius!

Still new to the band but I like the Nordland albums.
I actually just downloaded Bathory's entire discography. From what I have heard I think Bathory = awesome.
I always thought maybe I oughta love them more--but I never did. Bathory are good, sometimes great...but never been awesome, in my eyes. Maybe, when I gave them a try, I was way more into other, far cooler bands. Still, they are a recommended listen as a pioneering act in the earliest days of the (evolving) black metal genre that so many love so mightily, today.
I'm gonna give Bathory a revisit, sometime soon.
