I hardly get to listen to much metalcore (or deathcore), since there's too much weed to clear out before you get to the decent enough acts worth listening to. And then there's the modern 'melodic' metalcore that I honestly find seriously sucky. But I'll put my hand up and admit that I do enjoy random acts and songs of the genre.

Chimaira is an act that's been around for 10 years already, but I only discovered them a few years ago. I like them enough to have bought all their studio discs. Razz Smile. I have even watched them live, in Australia, a little over two years ago, at the time of the release of their Resurrection album. They are officially due to tour Australia again sometime in 2010. Bottom line is that, call them what you will--heavy metal, groove-thrash, metalcore or any other thing, I just think Chimaira are a darn cool act and worth giving a serious try for some of you metal/hardcore fans here. Smile

Their latest '09 release is called The Infection, and I quite liked it, as I do all their albums so far---my favourite being the self-titled disc of 2005.

I find it nice that there's other ppl that enjoy their music as well.. I also find their s/t album the best. Smile I remember giving a listen to their latest at some point, don't remember what I thought about it. I would really want to see them live. Xp
I like Chimaira too, actually, which is odd considering how little metalcore I actually enjoy.
I actually find Chimaira boring as fuck. I'd rather listen to even the abysmally bad metalcore such as BFMV... at least it ticks me off rather than put me to sleep. Lol
^^ hahaha, Butt....Sorry to know that Chimaira bores you to slumber. Damn, I was thinking that maybe a few more guys here, besides Shapeshifter and twins would chime in support for Chimaira. Grin

What metalcore acts do you enjoy, then?
Now that I think of it again, I don't think there's a single metalcore band I'd want to get into. Oddly enough even the genre name itself already turns me off of it.
^^haha, yeah speaking of 'metalcore' aloud, can sound like somebody wanting a bag of bootleg M&Ms, in a sense. Pacman:

Noli, do you feel the same way about metalcore's apparently bigger, badder cousin---'death-core'??
To be honest, I haven't gotten into deathcore yet. I still have a looong way to go. Still need to finish my Testament and Exodus, then get some Behemoth, some general doom metal, finish twins' list.

Althought I have listened to some We Butter the Bread With Butter Pacman

Metalcore:
Between the Buried and Me (progressive metalcore, know you wouldn't like it but I think they're fantastic)
Later Children of Bodom has metalcore influences

Deathcore:
We Butter the Bread with Butter
Job for a Cowboy
Animosity I enjoy sometimes

Aside from that, I haven't really found much else I enjoy.
Chimaira are okay. Not amazing but okay.

Hey guys, knock it off with those erks, and pulling faces, alright. Wink Pacman: Seriously, on further thoughts, I'd suggest that Chimaira isn't even all that 'metalcore' like many of the others (including those named on other threads in this forum) in the genre that are more full-on metalcore. Anyhow, I dig Chimaira a lot, even if you guys think I'm a silly rabbit for that. Lol

When it comes to metalcore, I'd urge you guys to seriously try out a whole bunch of non-melodic 'core' acts like Integrity, Overcast, Converge, Coalesce, Earth Crisis, Biohazard and many others that I find are far more exciting and boast far more 'metal' and musical chops in their mix, than some of the wussy, second-rate, generic, melody merchants that give mainstream metalcore such a deservedly bad name.

Other than that, I'd be happy to know that some of you will perhaps wanna seek out the true pioneers of true Hardcore/Punk (and later, grindcore) music, i.e Agnostic Front, Black Flag, Bad Brains, The Misfits, Discharge, Seige, The Exploited, D.R.I, The Dead Kennedys and lots more. You probably wouldn't wanna listen to something like BFMV again, if you heard Black Flag for a few days. Grin

Butt, I've never heard of this hilariously named We Butter the Bread With Butter. Sounds like a joke band to me. Grin.. But no, they must be decent enough for you to like them the way you do. I hated JFAC initially, gave them another chance, and thought they were not that bad really, and pretty decent from time to time. Some of my own deathcore interests in years past, include: The Agonist, Animosity, The Black Dahlia Murder, Despised Icon, The Red Chord, The Red Shore, Suicide Silence, and heck, once-mighty Cryptopsy sounds to me like a deathcore band, today, but there are far better ones than them. I'm also curious about The Acacia Strain, Winds of Plague, Born of Osiris. I wonder how good or bad these much-talked about band really are.

I guess you could say they are a joke band. Their song lyrics are taken from German nursery rhymes most of the time so yeah. Lol Not to mention their songs are pretty much 80% breakdown Lol

Still they write some fun little tunes that incorporate electronic influences, something I find intriguing and cool.

I actually really like The Black Dahlia Murder and The Red Chord, although I haven't heard a lot from each. Clients from The Red Chord, and Miasma and Nocturnal from TBDM.

As for Cryptopsy, they will always be DM to me. As much as I like the new vocalist, Matt McGachy, there's a lot better deathcore as you said. I pretty much ignore The Unspoken King as an album nowadays.

Matt really likes Winds of Plague if I recall.
Whitechapel is decent. I haven't really looked into deathcore much beyond that.

NapalmKid, AFAIK, you and I are the only regular posters here that like hardcore a lot.

I listen to The Misfits ALL THE TIME. I've heard some Black Flag and loved it as well.

I like The Acacia Strain, Winds of Plague and Born of Osiris. All decent bands.
If it matters any I've heard some Sex Pistols once and thought it was decent... dunno if they count as hardcore/punk.

I used to love the Sex Pistols. They are one of the bands that got me into "harder" music I suppose.

Start listening to stuff like Bad Brains, Discharge, D.R.I., etc. Hardcore is great.
If it also counts I like to listen to some happy hardcore (Four Year Strong), some southern hardcore (Texa$, The Courtship)... although this stuff might lean more on the metalcore side of things.
