This is a black metal giant that I first properly heard only 3-4 years ago, with the release of the
Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam album. And I just bought their latest disc of this year:
Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt. (which I have heard through only once) Apart from the normally infuriating cum hilarious album (and song) titles peculiar to black metal, I gotta say Gorgoroth has become one of my favourite bm powerhouses----in a relatively short personal list of firm favourite bm acts. I own 6 of their discs--including the two I mentioned above, and I just think they are a powerful bunch of musicians with a lot of craft and sheer presence about them. Sadly, I've never watched them LIVE, and have yet to get hold of their highly-rated classic debut record, Pentagram. Meantime, I love what I've heard of their stuff, so far.
Any fans out here?

Oddly enough I actually haven't heard any Gorgoroth aside from the song "Funeral Procession", and a bunch of songs from Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam.
I need to check out Pentagram, it's heralded as their best.
Haha, Butt, let's both get Pentagram the soonest possible. Then we'll find out for ourselves if it really is the 'best' as others would have us believe.

....At any rate, Gorgoroth has got to be one of the sitting Chairmen of the Board in Black Metal.

Now, I've got to find a way to go watch them play and slay live, somewhere, sometime soon.
Hey, what bm are you currently listening to? Do we have a thread on Satyricon here? A guy I know was telling me to check them out when he saw me listening to Gorgoroth last week. I'd recommend you try out Finland's Impaled Nazarene and Archgoat, Sweden's Dissection, Dark Funeral (and we've already discussed the magnificent Marduk). Also, there's a bm-dm band I had heard recently, (can't remember where they're from) that I liked a lot. They're called Graveland, I think. Blasphemy, from your own Canada, are darn good, to my ears. Strangely, though, I've yet to properly hear Belphegor, for instance. I realise that 'blackened-death' holds the greatest appeal for me in bm, and I also enjoy some of the so-called 'industrial-bm' releases. 'Symphonic/ambient' bm is the stuff that I've been really ambivalent about, all along. I don't dig most of that stuff. I'm curious about some of the bm-punk experiments with fast, aggressive tempos and the elements of 'crust' in the sound.
Sorry for rambling and getting off-topic. There's so much to say, really. And I know you're a fan, so there.

I highly recommend Dark Funeral, too. Secrets of the Black Arts is one of my favorite bm albums.
As for Gorgoroth, I've found them quite mediocre ever since the first three or so albums.

Belphegor is damn good.
Belphegor - Lucifer Incestus
Belphegor - Bondage Goat Zombie
I know of and love Dark Funeral. Same with Impaled Nazarene, although with the latter I only own Pro Patria Finlandia.
As for the kind of BM I like best... I mainly like the ambient stuff (such as Burzum and bands of that like), as well as the raw BM (Like early Darkthrone, Ildjarn, Beherit). I've also had the urge to check out industrial BM lately, I checked out Aborym - With No Human Intervention and it's pretty awesome. Symphonic shit I've never enjoyed, Emperor aside.
