Black metal from Oslo, Norway. They started out as black metal, and later (sadly) changed to an ambient/electronic/experimental band after a couple albums.
Their BM material:
Vargnatt [Demo, 1993]

Mysticum / Ulver [Split, 1994]
[example song]
Bergtatt - Et Eeventyr i 5 Capitler [Full-length, 1995]
[example song]
Nattens Madrigal - Aatte Hymne til Ulven i Manden [Full-length, 1997]
[example song]
This band is divine IMO. Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal are must-gets for any person who likes BM.
Yup, bang-on! I'd agree that early-Ulver were excellent, and although I haven't heard their latter albums, I'm told they're great too, in their own right. I have two of their bm albums,
Bergtatt and
Kveldssanger ---and now that you remind me of them, all over again, maybe I'll try to get another disc or two of theirs (the bm ones, obviously) that I haven't heard, but should. I've always had a weakness for EPs and splits,

so I might even get that split with Mysticum, first.

I had a friend during the mid to late 90's who worked at a metal label & would always give me CD's of the latest underground bands. One I remember was Ulver's Nattens Madrigal. I can't go as far as to say it did anything at the time to propel me into liking black metal. But in terms of the material my friend was handing me at the time, it was the best in terms of production quality. So I did listen to it a few times. Not my thing so much, but not bad.
A few years later a different friend picked up Ulver's Perdition City album when we were at a CD shop. He put it on in the car and I was shocked at their transformation. Since then I have checked out a few of their more recent albums on my own. I like Perdition a lot, Blood Inside is pretty cool but a little too much techno. 2007's Shadows of the Sun seems to stand out to me the most. It's moody and a little more relaxed. They also do a really cool cover of Black Sabbaths Solitude. At the point a few years ago when I got more into them I went back and listened to Kveldssanger. I actually like that one quite a bit. Although I never went back & listened to their debut. I'll have to check that one out as well.

I'm not a big fan of Kveldssanger tbh... when it comes more to folk albums from metal bands I'm more of a fan of Drudkh's way of doing things tbh.
One of only a handful of black metal bands that I listen to regularly. Awesome, especially Bergtatt.
