After drooling over Dark Funeral in my other thread, I thought of introducing yet another excellent Swedish BM act, Funeral Mist. They formed way back in '93, and were basically putting out a couple of quality demos and an excellent EP, Devilry, in 1998, before finally debuting with their first full-length effort, Salvation in 2003. I loved that record, and after being variously disappointed with a majority (though not all) of Swedish death metal, I was wondering if I could find some 'salvation' Razz in the black metal from Sweden, instead. Grin So yea, Salvation was a great starting point with this cool bm band, and after yet another long hiatus, leading up to this year, FM released another solid, satisfying studio disc, Marantha. This album seems to have attracted very conflicting fan reviews. I'm somebody that gives the record a good, high grade. I'm guessing that most long-time BM lovers are very likely to enjoy Funeral Mist and indeed 2009's Marantha.

Great. I haven't heard much from them, but what I have heard I liked very much. Still need to get one of their albums though. Which do you recommend?
Like I said, they only have two albums, Salvation..and this year's Marantha. Since Marantha seems to divide a lot of fans' feelings, (though I love the record), I'd say check out Salvation first. That's a very cool disc, no question.
Salvation was really good... Marantha was bogged down with some bland songwriting though, I thought. Just seems to draaaaaaaaggggg in parts. Then again, haven't listened to it in months though.

Maybe I should give 'er another try? I dunno.
I don't know, I haven't listened to new black metal in a long time. Really all that I listen to anymore is Mayhem, Blut Aus Nord, Inquisition, and Austere. I liked Dark Funeral a lot back in the day though, so I should probably listen to Funeral Mist.
I haven't heard much of them, which do you recommend?
Motley: Everything but Marantha, which was still, as expected, really boring in parts.

Twins: I still need to listen to the new Inquisition tbh. But yeah, I'm still into the BM as much as ever tbh. I've been exploring and exploring and exploring and it never seems to end. It's fucking fantastic. Been really digging a lot of depressive/suicidal BM lately like Abyssic Hate, Nyktalgia, and Nekrokrist SS.
I got To Lay Like Old Ashes and I must say that it's one of the best albums I've ever heard, black metal or otherwise. I also have that Misery's Omen album in the mail that I'm really looking forward to. I think for me I enjoy black metal the most when I only listen to it occasionally. Makes a much bigger impact that way.
Yeah, that Austere album is pretty nice. Haven't heard the Misery's Omen one though.

But yeah. I've been binging on BM the past couple months because as I said, the exploration just never ends, and it's awesome. So much good shit.
