Onslaught is a British thrash metal band, formed in Bristol in 1983. They remind me of a mix of Show No Mercy, early Kreator, and maybe even a little Artillery and Dark Angel. They released their debut album, Power From Hell, in 1985. While it was a solid effort, the follow-up, The Force, is definitely their best. In 1989, Onslaught released In Search of Sanity, which is widely regarded as a sellout, or, at the very least, much more commercial and accessible. They broke up a few years later after.

Onslaught did reform in 2005, and so far both a studio and a live album have been released. I haven't heard either, but reviews have been pretty good.

Overall, Onslaught is definitely a band that all thrash fans should hear. I highly recommend them.

And I highly second the stuff you say above. There are other bands named Onslaught, but this one is the best. Grin

The only Onslaught record I don't have is their comeback effort of 2007, Killing Peace. However, I did manage to buy the outstanding DVD of the same year, Live Polish Assault, and 2009's live album, Live Damnation, which was another excellent exhibition of Onslaught's continuing musical chops and intentions, to fans that know and remember them well.

twins, I recall actually liking In Search of Sanity for what it was, i.e. despite its flaws, still very much an impressive Onslaught studio outing. 'Sell-out' or not, it was just good and nothing to sneeze at. Of course, their first two can't be beat---and yea, The Force is definitely my own favourite. A thrashing onslaught every thrash fiend must at least give a try. Smile
I've never heard a whole lot of their music that stood out to me. But then again I never picked any of their albums up. I remember their cover of Let There Be Rock & the video they did for it. I thought it was a cool choice, although a little tame for a band of their sort. I was particularly glad to see Steve Grimmett in another band after Grim Reaper. I thought he had a lot to offer especially in the harder Speed Metal realm. Even if it was a short lived collaboration.

I'll have to check out more Onslaught. There's a lot of older bands I never got around to that deserve attention even this late in the game.

Check out The Force, man. I'm sure you'll like it.
