Vehemence are a death metal band from Phoenix, Arizona. They formed in 1997 and released their first demo cassette in 1998. Their debut album, The Thoughts From Which I Hide, was self-released in 2000. They debuted on Metal Blade Records in 2002 with God Was Created, and released their final album, Helping The World To See, in 2004.

I first became aware of them when they played an all day death extravaganza in my area in 2002 along with Impaled, Exhumed, Decapitated, and Dragonlord among others. I was there mainly to see Decapitated, but Vehemance really surprised me. IN fact Decapitated were kind of boring that night compared to Vehemance. I think they offer something a little different then the rest. Which I really respect. They're a little more gothic at times, Slower and a bit more groove oriented in between more blasts etc. Really unique though. I think God Was Created so far is their best release. Although Helping the World To See is pretty good as well.

Any fans?
I really like God Was Created, awesome melodeath album, but that's the only album I've heard by them.

Check out Helping the World to See
After actually reading (and hearing) some seriously superlative reviews of 'God Was Created', I gotta say I was awfully let down when I heard the hour-long record, myself. It seemed to badly drag in its entirety, with a lot of poor 'prog-rock' elements in the mix, and a lot of melodicism of the largely lame kind. If this was a shorter album, maybe I'd give it repeated listens and hope I'd come around to appreciating it over time---but enduring 60 minutes of frankly, flat-out boring music seemed a bit too much. Wink

I actually think that their other two records, The Thoughts from Which I Hide and Helping the World to See (both of which I've heard only once through) were slightly better overall, than God Was Created . Sure, Vehemence are probably not as sucky as I make them sound---but when some reviewers resorted to comparing them to Pestilence, for example, I balk at that. Wink
Still haven't heard Helping the World to See yet... but God Was Created helped get me through a depressing year and a half of my life, so it was sorta a "right album at the right time" kinda deal. But yeah... I don't normally enjoy melodeath, but that album actually had some decent, non-stale songwriting, which I find is more abundant in melodeath than you'd think.
I can't say I'm a fan, honestly. Like NapalmKid said, they just have the wrong kind of melody and not enough death metal.
