Thanatos is a Dutch death/thrash metal band from Rotterdam, formed in 1984. Their debut album was the classic Emerging from the Netherworlds in 1990. They followed it up with several not quite as good, but still great, releases, including their most recent, Justified Genocide, last year.
Any fan of thrash or death metal should love this band. They're fairly well-known in the metal underground, but deserve even more recognition than they get.
Although I love a few other Dutch extreme bands even more (Severe Torture and Pestilence being two stand-out examples), I think Thanatos are an ace death-thrash act, no question, and one that I've always liked a lot. So, in my book, Thanatos get their due recognition, alright.
Excepting last year's
Justified Genocide (I wasn't aware of its release, but now that I am, I'll check it out), I've got all the other Thanatos releases.
Emerging from the Netherworlds is definitely my favourite, though 'Undead.Unholy.Divine' is up there close with EFTN, for me.
twins, have you heard their live album 'Official Live Tape 1987'? Pretty impressive (and courageous) debut release for any extreme act, and Thanatos managed to pull it off with some real quality. I also have an excellent EP of theirs of a few years ago; I forget the name now. This band also has Asphyx, Hail of Bullets alumni in their personnel, for fans of those bands curious to cross over and give Thanatos a try.

No, I haven't heard that live album yet. Does it just have a bunch of material from their demo days?
