Pyrexia is a brutal death metal band from New York, part of the same scene as Suffocation, Immolation, Incantation, etc. Along with the rest of those New York bands, they pioneered the original brutal death sound. Their debut album, Sermon of Mockery, released in 1993, is one of the best in the genre.
I like their name

DO they tour with a band called The Coalition?
I figured this would happen. I'm surprised The Butt hasn't chimed in yet, tbh.
Anyways, just listen to the music, guys.
Sounded pretty good to me.
Although I should prolly DL the whole album and have it on repeat for several times to give a more formed opinion.
I'm surprised you like it, actually. Brutal dm just doesn't sound like your cup of tea.
Actually, it didn't sound that "brutal" to me at all.
Matt gave me a link to Abominable Putridity's Throat Fisting Abortion a long time ago and that was pretty okay as well.
Abominable Putridity is really good.

I agree.
I'm always been amazed and amused at just how little recognition and love Pyrexia got from otherwise brutal-dm die-hards that drooled over this band's nydm peers. I gotta wonder how many of them have actually heard of (let alone hear) Pyrexia's music. Okay, even I'd admit that Suffo and Immo are arguably 'better', greater legends of that fantastic dm scene in new york, but I admire and enjoy Pyrexia a whole lot too, in its own right. Too bad I never got to see them live. Studio stuff is up there among some of the finest (under-rated) brutal dm, in America, of that time.
Suffocation, Immolation, and Incantation are at the top of the New York scene, at least in my eyes, with Pyrexia and Morpheus Descends close behind, mostly because they just haven't released as much material.
On my card, it's also always been Suffo, Immo......and Skinless, as my greatest nydm idols. Incantation are very hit n' miss for me, overall, though I admire them too. And yea, Pyrexia and MD are ace acts and not too far behind the level of the aforementioned best trio.
